ACADEMIC STUDIES OF QUILTERS AND QUILTINGI may break out a section of this that are gallery books of art quilts and give them their own page - there's a fair number of them. Right now, this page is a bit of a muddle - unlike most crafts I cover(with the exception of origami), there is a good bit of surveys, scholarly documentation, studies, biographies, analysis, and formal exhibitions. As I identify useful categories here, I'll start whittling it down to smaller and more useful pages. For now, if it isn't fiction and it isn't a pattern book, it gets dumped here. |

Barbara Brackman meets my rule of 10 or more books to get her own dedicated page. More importantly, she an important documenter for women's craft history. Mom didn't have any of her books, unfortunately, but I think this is one I'm going to make a priority to fill in, and I'm definitely getting the stub page set up listing her books. SANDRA SIDER has, among many other things, written a series of a dozen monographs on interesting art quilt artists. She is almost uniquely situated to do so, as she also happens to be the curator of the Texas Quilt Museum(home of the Pearce Memorial Library and Material Culture Study Center) in La Grange, Texas, and the editor of "Art Quilt Quarterly" magazine. She has also done a handful of books looking at quilting as affected by various social pressures. In order to bring up the pop-up page, just click:
