SUMMARY- You've probably guessed by the size, length and Table of Contents that this isn't a "How-To" book. You would be correct. This book focuses on the quilt as a work of art, and invited 10 authorities of that time to write essays and elaborate on the many layers of that theme. This wasn't originally part of my mom's collection - I happened to see it on www.paperbackswap.com and ordered it on a whim. If I'd known how much it must have cost to mail it to me, I'd have offered to help cover the costs. It's huge. And heavy. And is not only interesting to read, but has an important survey of quilts past to present that are worth studying. If you have an interest in the history of quilts, this is a great find.
