ANNA VALEIRE
Here are the booklets I know of from Anna Valeire's self-published series. Reviews are of the books of the series that I own. She was a prolific and talented designer primarily in Tatting and Crochet. She published during a time period(1910's and '20's) when there was a lot of competition from other great designers like Anna Wuerfel Brown, Adeline Cordet, Emma Farnes, Mary Fitch, Sophie LaCroix, Frances Harris, Virginia Snow and Anne Orr - all self-published and master designers of several needlearts. She was apparently friends with Emma Farnes, and contributed tatting designs to several of Emma Farnes' crochet books - which is very funny when you read Becky Clark's notes below. They shared a publisher, E.C. Spuehler, who was apparently allergic to putting copyright dates on the books he published, so the dates I give are approximate for the designers who published through him. And this is all apparently fiction - except for the not having copyright dates. That part is true...

Anna Valeire was quite likely another pseudonym for Edwin Christopher Spuehler, a publisher in St. Louis, Missouri. Books were published under that name 1915-1920. In 1930 Edwin Spuehler was a resident in the Missouri state mental hospital with his profession listed as needle designer. He remained there until at least 1940 and died in 1945 at the age of 67.
Currently no entries for the name Anna Valeire have been found in genealogical records within the United States. Since Spuehler used the name Adeline Cordet as a pseudonym, it is very probable that Anna Valeire is also a pseudonym.
