SUMMARY- Her instructions are well broken down and easy to read. She recommends using size 10 thread for all of these, and while there are lots of beads (one with buttons and one with cabone rings also) I don't think several of these patterns are beyond a beginner who has just learned how to make a ring, a chain and a basic join. Yes, there will be some challenge here, but a bracelet is not a huge investment of time, the thread is not so small that it will be hard to pick out the mistakes and try again, and they're FUN. And who doesn't like beads? Anyone can string beads. I think this book would be the perfect gift to a new tatter. It leaves lots of scope for creativity, Karey is very approachable and is a great teacher, even long distance.
Karey's clever designs are always fun. (Karey's patterns run the gamut of difficulty and are engaging enough to encourage less experienced tatters to try the more difficult patterns(at least she did this for me!) Everyone knows by now I'm a big fan of Karey's, and not only have completed a catalog of all the issues of Tatting Times for the Bibliography Project, but with Karey's blessing, converted the first 20 years of Tatting Times to pdf format so she can sell them to those of us who came rather late to the party and missed out, with all proceeds going to a very worthy charity!
