SUMMARY- I have a placeholder copy(a photocopy of an original edition, not the original) of this very rare Priscilla book through the generosity of Judy Cavasos, a fellow member of IOLI(International Lace Organization, Inc). The original is quite special, having been passed down from Judy's grandmother, Franciska Logar. Franciska migrated to the United States in early 1911 - the same year this booklet was published in Boston - and married another immigrant, John Brus. They had known each other and grew up in a very small town in Austria that is now known as Idrija, Solvenia. Idrija has been a major lace-making center, with a lace school that dates back to the 1600s, up to modern day! Franciska must have been thrilled to come halfway around the world and still encounter something so familiar and worthy of pride from home. The original edition now in Judy's care is much loved and quite worn. The cover scan has been restored to as new condition as I was able.
Patterns for this booklet had to be purchased separately, so Judy is still working on completing a collection of the original patterns that went with this book. Anyone who might have any of these prickings should please contact me so I can put you in touch with her. We would both be thrilled to fill in more of this rare heirloom.
I've been slowly working on a collection of The Modern Priscilla booklets, but they tend to be a little pricey. Reproduction copies of some of the Priscilla booklets can be had fairly reasonably on e-bay or Iva Rose Reproductions.
I've included a link to the story of Idrija lace for those with an interest in learning more:
