SUMMARY- I paid a lot more for this book than I would ordinarily for any tatting book, and not as much as I should have. When you can find this one, it typically goes for $450 or more(as of 2014). There are excellent reasons for this. Mary Konior was a genius at design. Pick up a copy of her easier to find "Tatting With Visual Patterns" and you'll understand immediately what I'm talking about. This book uses an older notation("ds" instead of a number, "p" instead of "-") but isn't hard to follow. Patterns instructions are well broken down and easy to read. Her patterns have humorous names like "Betsy's Downfall" "Mathew, Mark, Luke, John" "Drunkard's Path" "Haste-to-the-Wedding" "Old Wive's Trail" or "Shepherd's Hey". Even the traditional "Hen and Chicks" pattern has an interesting variation. Photos are all black-and-white and not quite good enough to count stitches.
I enjoy her writing style and find her designs inspiring. There is never anything dull about Mary Konior's work. I feel fortunate to have found a copy of this book. (Thank you, Stephanie!)
Judith Connors wrote a small biographic piece for Craftree.
