SUMMARY- The kit comes with a hank of thread and the cro-tat hook. Looking over the instructions, it seems to me you would need to first know how to crochet(and tat) before trying to combine the two. You lose the delicacy associated with tatting - maybe because of the size 10 thread used in the projects? - but get to stick with the comfort and familiarity of your crochet hook(if you're originally a crocheter) to get the Ring/Picot look of tatting. I really like the deceptive delicacy of tatting, and love the artistry of filet crochet and the flamboyance of Irish crochet. Just not sure if marrying the two disciplines is for me. Your mileage, of course, may vary. It was worth it to me to pick up the book to at least take a look.
