SUMMARY- I get the impression that her instruction books are meant to supplement her hands-on teaching of tatting to beginners. She gives two great beginner patterns to practice what she's taught. I'm personally biased against trying to teach yourself tatting from a book(that's how I learned how when I was 16) - having a teacher is essential. You can substitute Youtube videos for a live teacher now, which is a great choice for those who don't have any tatters in their area. Kelli Slack is also a knitter, so she brings a wider knowledge to her craft, and a careful reading of this booklet lets me know she does know her tatting craft well. I bought all three of the books she had released, and a kit for making tatted poultry that I'm keen to take a look at, but I cracked and read this one first, and she had me smiling and nodding in agreement throughout.
