SUMMARY- Instructions for tatting are the slip-n-slide method of shuttle tatting, and they look followable. You get well chosen photos of the hand positions for the tutorial. It is still much easier to learn from an individual than a book, but these instructions aren't bad. My copy of this book has browned considerably, so it was a bit of a strain to read. All photography is black-and-white and the instructions are in traditional written notation. Instructions for the honking big doily(which they recommend be done in size 50 thread for beginners?!) are broken down only by round, so it would be easy to get lost in the instructions. There is only the one pattern for tatting - no edges or small motifs to practice first. I don't know why a tatting chapter got tacked on to this book, but that is exactly what the chapter feels like - tacked on.
