SUMMARY- This book has ended up on several notable recommended reading lists for quilters - with excellent reason. Even after almost 45 years, the lessons here are still very clear and well presented, with photos and sample images provided, and above all practical. He gives you a list of the standard mattress dimensions from Crib to King(p. 91), as an example. There have been many many excellent primers for quilters published over the last 40 years, but Mr. James did it so well he became a benchmark for everyone who came after him teaching this craft. It reminds me of Sir Isaac Newton's quote, “If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”
I should also note that much of Mr. James' bibliography is also on Quilter's Newsletter Magazine's 15th Anniversary Top 100 Quilting Books list...
