SUMMARY- This book isn't quite a cockroach killer(that's a book that if you happened to drop it on a cockroach, is heavy enough to kill it), but it would definitely limp away crying for its mama. I am notoriously hard on any book that uses "bible," "encyclopedia," "compendium," or "ultimate" in their title. I hold those books up to a higher standard because I believe there should be truth in advertising. So I came up with a list of types of quilt - nothing ridiculous, just different genres of quilt, and found references to every single one. I then spot read chapters - and got so engaged I ended up reading several chapters in a row without realizing I'd run over. The eye candy quotient is through the roof - so much so I got overwhelmed and had to go do something else for a bit to let my brain catch up. She wasn't a slacker in any given area - you get a wealth of information on every aspect of quiltmaking - so at this point I'm at a solid A++ for this book, then I look for a bibliography, which is my last test. That was the only fail. I like to see what influences the author had in writing their own book. I think that's actually a pretty important piece, so the grade gets dropped to an A-. If you're not a major book nerd, a missing bib likely won't matter one whit to you. If you are looking for something really solid to use for reference that gives plenty of visual examples to go with the text, this is what you're looking for.
