SUMMARY- The publishing date is interesting, and there is an astonishing amount of patterns and information packed into this brad-bound booklet - if you're willing to do the work of extracting the information and patterns from very small diagrams. This book was on the Quilter's Newsletter Magazine top 100 books on quilting. This was just one of a series of hobby manuals produced and published by Chicago's parks and recreations department that began in 1869. They supported public spaces that allowed communities to gather to learn and excercise a craft of their choosing. Ms. Beyer provides good detail for all aspects of quilting - including a detailed schematic for a quilting frame and a suprisingly long bibliography. I was very pleased to acquire this for its historic interest and all of the information is very good, if dated. If you're just looking for patterns, there's a lot of books that will cost less effort to extract the block(s) you want, but if you're looking for a snapshot of the time period, this is a good place to start reading.
