ROBERT HARBIN
(1909 - July 12, 1978)
Mr. Harbin bequeathed his copyrights to the British Origami Society, who have kindly kept work of his in print and available to all of us(thank you!). I wish more designers would find such routes to keep their legacies alive after their passing. He was the British Origami Society's first president. He was the first to introduce the Japanese word "Origami" into the the English language and helped make it a widely understood term for this craft in the West. He helped popularize Origami through many television appearances for the British BBC.
He was born in 1909 in Balfour, South Africa. Robert Harbin was the stage name he took when he became a professional magician.
