SUMMARY: I bought this particular issue for the article by Colette Wolff - a personal hero of mine. But I stayed for the great diversity of articles and great photography. Interweave Press has always been a favorite of mine through PIECEWORKS, but here's another gem I'd like the excuse to collect. I had a small simple loom when I was young, and loved playing with it - getting in trouble for raiding my grandmother's yarn stash for necessary raw materials. And Of Course I absconded with the good stuff. And I had an even smaller square loom that came with a huge bag of stretchy fabric loops that you could make colorful but utilitarian potholders out of - I was in heaven. That bag of fabric loops was HUGE. Everyone in my immediate family was soon drowning in potholders that refused to wear out and go away. When we cleared my grandmother's house, there were still a half dozen in her kitchen drawers 40 years later, obviously well-used but still game. I found I was as proud of the small scorch marks and other signs of wear as I had been of presenting them in the first place. I had given a gift that had been used over and over, and I know my grandmother smiled when she saw them in the drawer, remembering my delight in making them. So I guess what I'm saying is that even humble attempts can have long-reaching effects. It makes me wonder what I could do with one of those big looms advertised...
