SUMMARY: Quite a few of the patterns are reprints from "Workbasket". The marriage between their gardening magazine and "Workbasket" was a very awkward one and lasted only two years. The first issue was disappointing - one of the crochet projects was a reprint! I would have expected a new launch to have put its best foot forward to impress their subscribers and try to keep them. The Cats Corner was a two-page indulgence that had nothing to do with crafts or gardening. It was an amusing forshadowing of what the internet brings us now, though. Don't get me wrong, I love cats. It just wasn't an article that belonged in the pages of FGCE. There was a lot more advertising scattered throughout the issue as well - one of the reasons I don't pick up many of the women's magazines is because I feel like I'm buying ads with a few token articles instead of the other way around. This periodical wasn't that bad, but the article to ad ratio felt a lot more skewed toward ad to me. They went to subscription-only when they combined titles, making this a frustratingly rare title to find.
