Title: The ABCs of Making Teddy Bears
Author: Linda Mead
Publication Date: TPB:2000
Publisher: Martingale & Co., Bothell, Washington
Page Count: 156
Book Dimensions(ht. x w.): 11" x 8 1/2"
ISBN: 1564773329
PATTERN RATING: Patterns are all full-size, have seam allowances and grainlines clearly marked and have plenty of other markings to guide the crafter. Patterns are NOT just two sizes of teddy and then clothes patterns to vary them. Each of the Teddies in the Table of Contents has its own unique pattern to go with the accessories chosen for that personality. Photos are all full-color and really show off the bears. Pattern pieces stay out of the ditch and should be easy to photocopy or trace.
INSTRUCTION RATING: Instructions are broken down into parts or clothing item. After the initial chapters explaining general construction (which are excellent), there isn't a lot of illustration to go with them.
BONUS MECHANICS RATING: Remember this is a bonus rating - meaning this is an "extra" star for going into designing. This book gets a bonus star because Ms. Mead does an excellent job of explaining things like Tailor Tacks, how to correct crooked eyes with needlesculpting, and going over Sewing Challenges. She also gives an excellent color picture of various stuffing materials laid side by side so you can see the differences in them. There may be other books out there that have done this, but I don't have them.
SUMMARY- This is yet another really excellent teddy bear book. The bar must be higher for them in craft book publication, because of the few I've acquired so far, all have been above average. If you love teddy bears, this is an excellent book to have.
