SUMMARY- I was expecting paper dolls with costume changes that were more elaborate than pen and ink drawings. This isn't that at all. These are not dolls you can interact with, really. They're art dolls made from paper and other found materials - playing with them isn't really the intent. As a form of artistic self-expression, they work perfectly. The author chose to create watermark-style backgrounds for each page as a backdrop for the artwork and at times it was difficult to decide where the art started and the background began - a small peeve of mine, as I believe good art should be able to stand on its own. I don't think the author was trying to bolster up poor art, but simply trying to give each piece an appropriate setting. Your mileage may vary. It wasn't what I was expecting, so I came away disappointed. Knowing what you will get, hopefully, will free you to enjoy the show.
