Title: The Complete Book of Handcrafts: A step-by-step buide to popular handcrafts
Edited by: Linda Olsheim
Publication Date: HC:1973
Publisher: Crescent Books, NY
Page Count: 304
Book Dimensions(ht. x w.): 12" x 8 3/4"
ISBN: 517116677
PATTERN RATING: Patterns have to be enlarged A LOT. They have the old ABC method of markings, and grainline, but not much else. All the toys except the frog are gussetted. You get a pattern for a turtle, owl, a hedgehog, frog, lion and the dog pictured on the cover.
INSTRUCTION RATING: Instructions for the toys are pretty rudimentary, with no illustration to help the crafter.
SUMMARY- For a book that is supposed to be a jumping off point for starting a new hobby, they were pretty stingy with the illustrations in a lot of areas. This includes the soft toys. I was pleasantly surprised they didn't go for mostly pancake type patterns, but they still look pretty crude compared to similar style toys. I did find the book interesting to look through for other crafts, so it was still worth the price of admission to me. I would not trust it to teach me a totally new craft, though.
